Hon. Byron Chan is the Board Trustee of NIDC. Under the legal framework governing NIDC, the Governor of the day serves as trustee shareholder representing the interests of the people of New Ireland.

Byron Chan, elected as Governor, serves as the Member of the New Ireland Regional seat and has played a key role in provincial leadership, focusing on governance, infrastructure development, and economic growth initiatives across the province.

He is the son of the late Grand Chief Sir Julius Chan, one of Papua New Guinea’s most prominent founding political leaders. Continuing his family’s legacy in public service, Byron Chan has been actively involved in advancing development priorities in New Ireland, working closely with provincial stakeholders to improve service delivery and strengthen local economic opportunities.

As Governor, he leads the Chan-Kolivos Provincial Government, with a focus on strengthening institutional capacity, supporting sectoral development, and driving long-term investment in key industries such as tourism, agriculture, and fisheries.
